May 2011 Artists

Activated Spaces logoLaunched during the May 2011 Urban Nights, Activated Spaces had a fantastic opening round to celebrate our local artists as one of the best bragging rights in the region. Many artists signed up to fill previously vacant storefront windows with art representing their favorite Dayton festivals. As more artists join the fold and window spaces get decorated with new art (or used by the new businesses going in) – we’ll use this space to keep a list of the artists who have made a difference in beautifying downtown Dayton. Thanks to you all!

Our people’s choice winner: Amanda Sue Allen had her work featured at the Cannery Art and Design Center.

Other people’s choice nominees included:

The Focus Photo Club that filled a window with photography celebrating all things Dayton festivals.
Jacqui Theobald who highlighted Dayton’s rich connection with the river.
With his travel photography, Jason Eckley encouraged passerbys to check out the many cultural festivals in Dayton.
The YP group for designers and creatives – Dayton Creative Syndicate - beautified windows with wine fests. Yum!
Quilting and sculpture highlights the many multi-cultural opportunities we have to come together when Bob and Cindi Remm decorate their window.
Carol Stoops highlighted what festivals are all about – the people coming together – with her vibrant (and 3D) display.
Suki Kwan showed off her handmade fabrics and demonstrated how unique patterns together make beautiful art.
Students at the Dayton Regional STEM School were inspired to highlight the Women in Jazz Festival with a life-sized sculpture.
Charles Stough used his window to campaign for a better Dayton.

In addition to the People’s Choice Nominees (as selected by our judges), we were honored to feature many other talented and passionate artists. Their work was featured for all to see while exploring the downtown area.
